The Book Trade Peace Prize has been awarded at the fair every year since 2000 during a ceremony.

The fair awards the prize by recognizing the book with the strangest title.

Certain initiatives would not exist without partners and are closely linked to its goals and, to some extent, its governance structure.

On the occasion of the Fair, the Society for the Promotion of African, Asian and Latin American Literature was founded. As a non-profit association, it monitors literary trends and selects the best examples of creative writing from Africa, Asia, and Latin America for translation into German. It promotes them in the United States, Switzerland, and Austria, encouraging contacts between authors and publishers from third world and German-speaking countries. It serves as an information and exchange center for the literature of Africa, Asia and Latin America, creating a forum for debate about “third world” literature.

In 2006, the fair launched a campaign against illiteracy. In this context, the 2007 Book Fair also launched a short story project called “Who’s on the Line?
